Comedy Writers Wanted

Are you a fan of jokes?  If yes, here's your chance to have your jokes, stand-up skits, and funny stories published. Studies show that indulging your sense of humor can help you live a longer, healthier life. Laughing not only eases stress, promotes social bonding, and lowers blood pressure, but it also helps boost your amuse system!

The older we get, the more important humor becomes. Many people associate humor with having lived a more satisfying life - with laughter being the natural expression of that satisfaction.

THE 5 HEALTHY SIDE EFFECTS OF HUMOR

EASY BREATHING

According to Dacher Keltner, Ph.D., author of the book Born to Be Good and professor of psychology at the University of California Berkeley, "90% of laughs involve deep exhalations. When you exhale, your heart rate and blood pressure go down and you enter a calmer state. This effect may very well be the reason you feel a sense of relief from laughing."

BETTER BONDING

Nothing brings people closer together like a good laugh. Couples who tell each other lighthearted jokes and share laughter to defuse tension tend to have better marriages, says psychologist John Gottman, Ph.D. of the Gottman Institue in Seattle. So, before your next lover's spat, come up with a little word like "Walmart" to diffuse an argument and indicate that you or your partner would like a time out.

STRESS RELEASE

According to researchers at Loma Linda University in California, the mere idea of laughing decreases stress hormones (dopac, cortisol, and epinephrine by 38, 39, and 70% respectively). At the University of Maryland, study participants who were shown funny movie clips experienced a 22% increase in blood flow to their hearts.

HEALTHiFUL

Not only does a laugh, giggle, or guffaw release tension, but it also helps keep you healthy. People who laugh 10-25 times daily face fewer diseases than those who laugh outside that range (2009 study International Journal Medical Sciences).

MORE CREATIVE, MORE SATISFYING OUTPUT (WORK)

73% of all employees in the whole wide world (WWW) reported that having a sense of humor made them better at their jobs!
