SECOND BREAKFAST

Second breakfast (zweites Frühstück, Druggie ´sniadanie) is a breakfast eaten after breakfast, but before lunch, hence "second breakfast".

HISTORY OF SECOND BREAKFAST

In Bavaria and in Poland, special dishes are eaten exclusively during second breakfast. In Vienna - and most of Austria - second breakfast is called Jause. It is typical to eat four to five smaller meals a day often times due to how early one wakes up in the morning. In this case, meals are proportionate to the amount of singing you do:

Usually around 10:30 a.m., most people need a little "something something" to tie them over, such as pastries, coffee, or some cheese & crackers.  In Munich, the cutest little white sausages - Weißwurst  - are served [YUM!].
This YUMMY sausage is served with pretzels, sweet mustard, and wheat beer. In Britain, meal is referred to as elevenses.
In Poland, second breakfast is usually a sandwich or pastry, but I confess, I much prefer kisiel.
LORD OF THE RINGS
In J.R.R. Tolkien's novel The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins eats a second breakfast. In the film adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring, Pippin references second breakfast in this clip:

In the book The Magic Mountain (Der Zauberberg) by Thomas Mann in 1924, second breakfast is mentioned several times, usually consisting of oatmeal.
Yuck! :(
On a related tangent, this is a very cool picture also called The Magic Mountain:
