Coffeeology

Nothing warms my heart and mind like a sweet cup of creamy coffee.

You can call it 3,7-dihydro-1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6,-dione OR 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine, but what we're really taking about here is a Good Cup of Joe.

Caffeine is a CNS stimulant. In moderate doses it can increase alertness, reduce fine motor coordination, cause insomnia, cause headaches, nervousness and dizziness. In massive doses, caffeine is lethal, but you'd have to drink 80 to 100 cups of coffee in rapid succession to meet your maker - and that's not what drinking coffee is all about.

Drinking coffee is about jumpstarting your thinking, kicking back a moment to naturally take things in. You don't want to fall asleep, that's boring. If you try to savor the feeling too long, sure, it can give you a headache. It can also make you feel jittery and off-balance. But that's not what it's about either.

Coffee is about chilling out in that territory we call the mind. Taking a moment to ourselves to just be. Even if we're sitting at a desk being pulled by a million different directions, that cup of coffee serves as an instantly pleasureful, warm and soothing way back to ourselves before anyone else came close to having a say.

Coffee is delightfully met by good humor. It's a warm, refreshing start to the morning. Hot buttery toast, eggs cooked to perfection, a hearty breakfast and the morning paper. No, not the business section, you goof, I'm talking the best part of the paper, that's right, The Funnies.

Coffee's a little like that...
