The Secrets to Longevity: Smoke Pot, Drink Coffee, Eat Less

A puff a day will keep the doctor away

Gary Wenk, professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at The Ohio State University and author of Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings, discusses how low doses of carbenoids, a chemical in marijuana, treats inflammation in the brain. Until recently, scientists did not know that inflammation in the brain occurred.

In a study by Davies et al, New strategic reactions for organic synthesis: catalytic asymmetric C-H activation alpha to nitrogen as a surrogate for the mannich reaction (could this title have been longer?), it was demonstrated that carbenoids display remarkable chemoselectivity, which allows for highly regioselective, distereoselective, and enantioselective reactions to be achieved. Reactions further display high levels of double stereodifferentiation and kinetic resolution.

Basically, a puff a day will keep the doctor away.

"4-5 cups a day for a minimum of 2 years is neuroprotective. It prevents the death of neurons, whose death leads to Parkinson's Disease," claims Professor Wenk.  If that's not reason enough to take up coffee drinking, I don't know what is...

And finally, if you wish to live long enough to move to Paris for your Blue or Pink Mood experience, learn to eat less. A little bit of something never hurts, whereas a lot of anything really does.
