A Brief History of Shoes

Kick off ur shoes and stay awhile

Brought to you by
Mom's shoes

15,000 years ago, shoes were made out of animal skins or furs wrapped around the foot. A 5,000-year old well-preserved "ice-man" wore leather foot coverings stuffed with straw.

Shoes, despite their material construction, have been around for a very long time...

The evolution of foot coverings - from the sandal to the highly decorative, ornamental artistic creations below, are marvels of engineering that most every woman (and man) appreciates.

In some ways, we are still wearing sandals...

though, admittedly, there have been a few modifications

While the basic shoe has not evolved far from its humble beginnings, the colors and materials of shoes today demonstrate that shoe fashions of today are not to be hidden under the long gowns of the High Renaissance

but rather proudly displayed as functional works of art.

Art that Catherine de Medici, the first woman to wear heels in a marriage ceremony (1533 with the Duke of Orleans), would have admired.

Catherine, Chica, you'd love these!
